Retreats & Generative Writing Circles

May 9 - 14, 2026

Six days in the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands—where lochs shimmer, trails beckon, and words flow. Join a small circle of women for daily hikes, restorative writing, cold swims, and deep connection. Come home to yourself in the company of others doing the same.

I believe poetry is medicine—a way to tend to the ache and awe of being human. In these intimate, 90-minute monthly writing circles, we gather live (never recorded) to explore three poems by a featured poet. Together, we read slowly, feel deeply, and uncover the ways their words echo in our own lives. These sessions are a gentle invitation to reconnect—with ourselves, with each other, and with the healing power of language.

Custom Writing Circles

Whether you're seeking deeper connection among friends, colleagues, or family, I’ll guide your group through a thoughtfully curated experience that uses poetry and writing as powerful tools for reflection, vulnerability, and authentic connection. Let’s create a space where stories are shared, voices are honored, and community grows stronger—one word at a time.

About Me

Hi, I’m Danielle—poet, educator, and facilitator of spaces where writing becomes a bridge back to ourselves and each other. I’m the author of If Adam Picked the Apple (North Meridian Review, 2024) and a Pushcart Prize recipient, with poems published in LitBop, North Meridian Review, Anti-Heroin Chic, and more.

With a BA in English and years of experience in the classroom and beyond, I’ve led writing workshops and retreats for people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether in schools, corporate spaces, or out on the trail, my facilitation style invites honesty, curiosity, and community. I believe poetry forces us to slow down, to examine what we so often keep hidden—even from ourselves. It’s not just art—it’s a mirror, a balm, and a reckoning.

I’ve co-led Nature & Nurture Hiking and Writing retreats in the Smoky Mountains and on the Oregon Coast, and I continue to design custom writing experiences for individuals, groups, and organizations. I live in St. Louis, Missouri with my son and our sweet pup, and I’m currently working on my second poetry collection.

You can read more of my longer-form work over on Substack at The Understory.
